Requirements

 

Required Latin Skills:

  1. Latinum (encompassing Latin I-III, reading course and exam at the district government in Cologne) required

    • for the Bachelor teacher training course of study (GyGe) in the following subjects:

      • English
      • French
      • Spanish
      • History
      • Catholic theology
    • for the State Exam teacher training course of study (Gym & GS) in the following subjects:
      • English
      • French
      • Spanish
      • History
      • Catholic theology
  2. Latin skills (encompassing Latin I and II) are required
    • for teacher training at a Berufskolleg (State Exam) in the following subjects:
      • French
      • Spanish
      • Catholic theology
    • for teacher training at a Berufskolleg (State Exam) in the subject
      • Catholic theology
    • for the Bachelor course of study:
      • History
  3. Additional Latin skills (encompassing Latin I, II, and III) are required
    • for doctoral studies in the following subjects:
      • Romance Linguistics and Literary Studies
      • English Linguistics
      • Philosophy
      • History
      • Catholic theology
      • Art and Building History

IMPORTANT! In accordance with the Magister examination regulation the Latin exam cannot be used for doctoral studies!

Exemptions from the Latin requirements are only made in rare, well founded cases. You must submit proof of Latin skills either in the form of an Abitur certificate or a corresponding exam for all subjects or degrees requiring a certain level of Latin skills. Failure to do so will result in you not being admitted to the corresponding final exams.
